How do you explain surgery to a 3 year old? You really can't. We started slowly talking about the dr and "surgery". Luckily we are going to Disneyland soon and were able to talk about the importance of feeling better for Disney!
Surgery was set for 630 am. Ava woke up perfect:) Happy. Calm. And relaxed. We got to the dr. Met nana and grandpa, and waited. Mommy and Ava got called back to the room where Ava was to get all dressed! Worst part of the day was having to take our doc mcstuffins Jammie's

Ava did wonderful in the pre op area, hesitant but took it all in nicely. The nurses were amazing and asked for Ava's participation for everything.
They had Ava "paint" her mask with strawberry chap stick and practice smelling the strawberry!
Ava brought her 2 friends to surgery with her. Paige and Dr. Twan. Everyone got to go for wagon rides around the pre op. Ava did so well when it was time to go back, she let the nurses drive and off she went.... What a brave girl!!
Seeing Ava in the recovery room was the worst. She tried to talk and cry for me but she couldn't. Poor thing had blood coming from her nose and she was so groggy. She ate some "slushies" and took a great nap. When she would wake up she would get very irritable and would hit me. Poor baby! Recovery lasted a few hours and off to home we went.
Nana and grandpa were life savers!! Grandpa brought over a wagon, nana made special snacks and Ava rested and relaxed. First day went amazing... First night....not to much!!! Medicine every 3 hours in the middle of the night is awful. Nana again took one for the team so I could feed Nolan and she slept with Ava. Started in her room, then the couch, and then the recliner. Poor thing couldn't breathe well.
Day four and we are on the mend. Medicine is a battle bc "it hurts her". We are thinking it stings her throat.
Diet consist of
Caprisun
7up
Pizza bites
Slurpee
Uncrustables
We have tons of Popsicles and ice cream but she's not really into it
The breathe is already getting awful, they said it will be unbearable due to the tissue in her throat.
Overall recovery has been amazing. Kids are resilient. I'm so proud of her and hope I never have to deal with another surgery
